Town Hall Citizen is up against the machine
If Democrats' message is so good, why couldn't they beat Trump?

Howdy,
Last night I attended a town hall meeting – that I found out about by accident – at the Avon Public Library for State Representatives Dylan Roberts and Meghan Lukens.
25 people attended.
Both representatives spoke for about 30 minutes gleefully repeating Democratic talking points that most people don't understand. Hence, only 25 people in attendance, half of them grey hairs.
The meeting was limited to 1 hour. Good thing no more than 25 showed up, they wouldn't have been able to ask questions. Civic engagement? Not so much.
I asked the last question, which was more of a statement. I blamed both representatives for our lack of civic engagement. My reasoning being that if their message was so good, why aren't more people at the meeting? Why have Democrats lost so many house seats? Why couldn't the Democrats beat Trump, the worst Presidential candidate in electoral history?
My comments didn't go over very well.
After the meeting I talked with a young lady who said she was part of the Eagle County Democrats. I gave her a card, tried to explain what Town Hall Citizen is about. That didn't go well either.
The woman accused me of trying to "divide Democrats". She couldn't understand why I wasn't falling in line and supporting the Democratic establishment.
I showed her our platform.
- A good paying job, good education, good and affordable housing
- Clean and healthy environment - clean air, food, and water
- Medicare For All
- The Open Web
- Free speech
- Publicly funded elections
- Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies
- Economic protection during sickness, accident, old age, or unemployment
- Department of Peace
- Fighting climate violence and pandemics
I pointed out that everything on our platform except #'s 4, 5, 9, and 10 are a copy of FDR's Economic Bill of Rights.
She seemed to think we were forming a new political party. When I explained that we weren't, that we were following in the steps of The Tea Party, she didn't understand what The Tea Party had accomplished.
I could have handled the interaction better and I will. I should have pointed out that the Democrats don't take a stand against war. Or that they don't stand behind Medicare for All, Free speech, a Department of Peace, Publicly funded elections – all of which are highly popular – or the rest of our platform.

From there I went over to Ford Amphitheater to see Grateful Drag.

While driving over it sank in that I'm taking on the establishment. A machine with indescribable power and influence who don't even take a stand against war. Then I smiled.
tty next time,
