America
We're more divided than ever. Two big reasons why are politics and social media.
On one side of the isle are the Republicans - a party led by Donald Trump. Trump is about a far-right brand of politics best thought of as autocratic and theocratic rule, that’s borderline fascism.
On the other side of the isle are the Democrats - a party once popular with the working class, but has since lost its way. Favorable views of Democrats are the lowest in three decades.
In the 2024 Presidential election 89 million eligible voters did not vote.
For Democrats to regain power, we believe they need to stand for our updated version of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Economic Bill Of Rights.
We’re not gonna post our way out of this.
On February 5, 2025 404Media published You Can’t Post Your Way Out of Fascism by Janus Rose.
This excellent piece accurately sums up why posting back and forth with anons about Trump’s latest atrocities adds up to nothing more than poor health and lost time. Why, it “keeps us in a state of debilitating fear and anger, endlessly reacting to our oppressors instead of organizing against them”, “always reacting and never acting”. And, that social media convinces “ourselves that posting is a form of political activism, when it is at best a coping mechanism—an individualist solution to problems that can only be solved by collective action”.
OK, now what?
1) Borrow a page from history
In 2009 citizens rose to form the Tea Party, which then took significant control over the established Republican Party. These well organized citizens accomplished this feat with no more than 300,000 active members (Tea Baggers).
2) Organize IRL
“when it comes to addressing the problems we face, no amount of posting or passive info consumption is going to substitute the hard, unsexy work of organizing”.
