The Montana Plan - pathway to getting money out of politics

This is the first post on the Montana Plan, something I learned about from David Sirota. I'll be writing much more on this. Because it's exciting. It's a key ingredient towards getting money and corruption out of politics, which ties to #5 on the Town Hall Citizen platform - Publicly funded elections.

What is the Montana Plan?
"The Montana Plan is a Constitutional Initiative that will amend Montana's constitution to sweep corporate and secret-donor money out of Montana's local, state, and federal politics. It achieves this not by the state of Montana regulating corporate speech, but by the state of Montana simply declining to grant the corporations it creates the power to spend in politics. This is authority every state possesses but no state has used in more than a century. Montana can do it, and your state can too!"

Still don't get it? The Montana Plan, if passed in Montana, would make it illegal for PAC's (which are corporations) to spend money on political activities, ie campaigns, ballot measures, etc.

It wouldn't completely take money out of politics, because wealthy donors could still contribute. But here's the catch: donors would have to do so individually, which means their name and all monies they contributed would be public record. They'd now have to put their name where their money is.

Please watch this 4 minute video of David Sirota talking about the Montana Plan on the October 16, 2025 Majority Report podcast:

David Sirota being interviewed on The Majority Report, talking about the Montana Plan

This is all part of what David calls "The Master Plan". A plan that was cooked up back in 1971 to make bribing politicians legal and culminated with the 2010 landmark SCOTUS case, Citizens United. You can learn about the Master Plan wherever you get your podcasts. The Apple podcast link is here.

Now watch this clip from the show were David shows viewers they can turn back the money and corruption in our politics. He's so right on:

David Sirota telling viewers yes they can!

"I wanna leave people with this idea.

"If we can understand that this is part of a deliberate master plan executed by specific people with a specific goal, what it means is it’s not a natural human evolution. It’s not a force of nature. It means that it can be reversed. It can be rolled back. It was created by humans. It can be reversed.

"This is not some divine force here; this is like we have to have our own organizing, our own our own plans to reinvigorate the Democracy.

"I mean, imagine what they (master planners) felt like back in 1971. Ralph Nader‘s winning all sorts of fights in Congress. They were a tiny minority (the master planners) that were throwing ideas against the wall. They probably seemed totally unrealistic, but they worked at it for decades and decades.

"I’m not taking inspiration from them (master planners), but they could’ve been demoralized and checked out too. They actually figured out a plan. They stuck with it and they made it happen. In some way that should be a reminder to all of us".

Yes!
